Numerical evaluation of pollutant dispersion in the built environment: comparisons between models and experiments
Steady-state RANS Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations of pollutant dispersion in the neutrally stable atmospheric boundary layer are made with the commercial code Fluent 6.1 for three case studies: plume dispersion from an isolated stack, low-momentum exhaust from a rooftop vent on an isolated cubic building model and high-momentum exhaust from a rooftop stack on a low-rise rectangular bui...

متن کاملConstruction of energy-stable projection-based reduced order models
An approach for building energy-stable Galerkin reduced order models (ROMs) for linear hyperbolic or incompletely parabolic systems of partial differential equations (PDEs) using continuous projection is developed. This method is an extension of earlier work by the authors specific to the equations of linearized compressible inviscid flow. The key idea is to apply to the PDEs a transformation i...
متن کاملThe influence of an obstacle on flow and pollutant dispersion in neutral and stable boundary layers
The combined effect of shear and buoyancy on dispersion behind a fence is examined. Stable turbulent boundary layers up to Rigrad 1⁄4 0.2 are generated by a recycle method. The fence affects concentrations up to at least 100 obstacle heights downstream. The decay of maximum velocity and temperature deficit is independent of stability. The decay in maximum concentration excess decreases appreciably
متن کاملFourier Series for Accurate, Stable, Reduced-Order Models in Large-Scale Linear Applications
A new method, Fourier model reduction, for obtaining stable, accurate, low-order models of very large linear systems is presented. The technique draws on traditional control and dynamical system concepts and utilizes them in a way which is computationally very efficient. Discretetime Fourier coefficients of the large system are calculated and used to construct a reduced-order model that preserv...
